We are blessed with some of the most spectacular scenery, hiking and wildlife within easy reach of the Backeddy Resort and Marina. Big trees lead to big waves at Skookumchuck Narrows Provincial Park, a favourite hike on the Sunshine Coast (just around the corner from us). Don’t forget to reward yourself after a day solid hiking with a burger and cold beer at The Backeddy Pub!
With one of nature’s most spectacular displays of tidal power, the Skookumchuk (Strong Water) Narrows is a local favourite. During exceptionally large tides, spectacular standing waves and whirlpools delight visitors and locals alike. And even if the tides aren’t in your favour, the breathtaking beauty of our pacific coastal rainforest is well worth the hike. Washrooms are located at each end of the trail.
We happen to think that waking up to our view is really special – you just never know what wildlife you’ll see in the water in the morning. We almost always have a seal pop its head up to say hi, and the local herons keep a watchful eye on the marina. There’s something amazing about seeing Orcas play in their natural habitat… we feel incredibly lucky to see them just outside our resort!
The Sunshine Coast is home to some seriously fantastic hiking. See our reception team for local recommendations – we’re always happy to offer suggestions based on experience and activity levels.
